Today we're going to learn about Mafrid, the Hebrew word for scary and the many uses for it, like what to say after watching your horror movie or when there is a cockroach in the kitchen.

Scary in Hebrew is Mafrid, the root is Paechret-D daled, and Maffid is in Hifil.

I remind you, that's the causative bignan verb format.

We're causing fear to someone.

Nafrid is also the adjective, scary.

Zemase-emafrid, it's really scary.

The ha-ya, mazemifrid, it was really scary.

Horror film in Hebrew is Serrat Aymah.

Aymah means terror, fear.

It's good to know, even though it's a fancy word.

Sometimes jokingly, we say ha-e-ma. So we use a fancy word in a non-fancy situation. For example, you have to cook for special guests knowing that you're not the best cook. The taste is scary, meaning it's scary how delicious it is.
