Alright, so as usual, we should start with some follow up and I, I, I, I shouldn't be excited about this one and only follow up item.

0:15.0

And I shouldn't be excited because it's about boring big business stuff, but I'm actually kind of excited about this because it's some news about nomad.

0:25.0

So tell me about what nomad is, what problem it's supposed to solve and whether or not it solves it.

0:30.0

Last time we talked about this, it was like me complaining that I got a new computer at work and my new computer was on the Active Directory network and it was a Mac.

0:38.0

And I was complaining about how it seemed like being on the Active Directory network was making lots of things about my Mac worse and I was sad about it.

0:48.0

And then follow up on the subsequent shows, a lot of people send us information about this thing called nomad, they said, hey, you should try this.

0:55.0

I think the story I was told by a couple of people in feedback was like apples Active Directory support is not great in Mac OS and it really has been.

1:05.0

And there was like a consulting wing of Apple that would like come to your company and help you set up all your Macs for your big enterprise or whatever.

1:15.0

And the consulting company recognizing the Apple's Active Directory stuff wasn't that good, but also recognizing that they weren't in a position to make it better came up with the system.

1:32.0

Just like a series of like shell scripts and other little programs and stuff that would try to give you the effects of Active Directory without actually being Active Directory and that they would pitch that to their clients.

1:44.0

And my recollection was that this is like an apple, not like just a consultant, but like actually part of Apple going to help people and this part of Apple because it wasn't empowered to change Mac OS was doing this other thing and giving it to clients.

2:00.0

I don't know if I've got that part right, but anyway, we will put the link in the show notes, they have a dot menu domain nomad dot menu, which I think is not good.

2:10.0

You can look at their website and read about what it does that there's a blog post from another company that it does Mac related enterprise stuff, the basically saying you get gives you the experience of Azure director without requiring as they put it a bind to AD.

2:27.0

So you're not constantly connected to Active Directory and you know all the things that I thought were making my Mac slower like me trying to wake it up from sleep and me getting to the point where I can enter my password unlock my computer or.

2:39.0

You know random spinners before we'll allow me to have network access and stuff like that in theory this thing would help so.

2:46.0

I took that feedback is idea that sounds kind of neat but it's not like I have any control over when when a riff that's going to happen.

2:52.0

But I had a pleasant surprise a couple weeks ago and my work started doing a trial of this and I asked if you wanted to sign up I said yes and like a dare to latest some Active Directory stuff disappeared for my Mac and there's no mad stuff appeared.

3:08.0

And so I got to try it and I have to say I'm about a week in here.

3:12.0

It feels like a lot of the things that seems stupidly slow are not stupidly slow anymore it is much faster for me to when I wake my computer up or whatever to get to the point where it lets me enter my password.

3:25.0

The computer unlocks faster and I feel less like hangs for no reason so I'm pretty happy with it so far.

3:33.0

This also lets me know that my complaints about touch ID on the Mac were not related to Active Directory because now I'm not on Active Directory anymore and still touch ID on my 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro.
