Welcome to another episode on the edge with Andrew Gold. It's Kelly Copter, not her real name, but it sounds like

Kelly Copter. She's on the show today. She is a former Scientologist, but wait, I know you're

thinking there's been a lot of Scientology stuff lately, although it has been

mixed up a bit more recently and I will

continue to do that in the coming weeks and months. I'm sort of trialing and erring things, hopefully

less erring, and it will all move around and mix up and there'll be some interesting stuff going on and things.

But this is very different to I think any Scientology story that I've encountered because her parents, well firstly she's British I should say and secondly her

parents sort of you know they started getting involved with what Scientology calls squirreling as in a squirrel the little animal and

that means going back and sort of doing a home-made DIY version of Scientology and making it all weird and stuff. So this is as much a story

about Scientology as it is a story about an abusive upbringing and what cults can do to the mind of parents and what they did to

her.

It's really quite astonishing how I think since I've started this podcast how I've seen some parents have treated their children and

Kelly is just the most remarkable person. She's one of my favorite people that I've ever interviewed. She's lovely. She's so nice. She's so supportive as well. She's always sort of she watches this podcast herself on YouTube. She's always commenting and saying nice things and she's just such a joy to be around and that is remarkable.

It begs questions about nature and nurture because she just appears to have this

beautiful nature about her despite what must have been a very difficult

nurture. So you'll hear all about it the things her parents did to her the

pressure they put on her the the neglect and
