| 0:00.0 | Hi, I'm Sarah Ellis and I'm Helen Tupper and this is the squiggly careers podcast. |
| 0:07.3 | Every week we chat about how to navigate the ups and downs of our squiggly careers so that hopefully we can all navigate them with that bit more confidence and control along the way. |
| 0:17.3 | And this week as a word of warning, we are going to focus much more on the downs, which is not very like us because usually we're pretty positive and optimistic. |
| 0:25.7 | And hopefully you'll still get that vibe from us today. |
| 0:28.4 | But today's topic is about dealing with disappointment, which I think is something that is inevitable in all of our careers. |
| 0:35.6 | So we thought it was time to take on the challenge of talking about one of the downs that I think is probably some of the naughtiest moments that we have to deal with in our career. |
| 0:43.7 | And squiggly careers, so careers that are full of change and uncertainty, as well as all of the opportunity and possibility, are just designed to have some naughty moments along the way. |

| 1:04.4 | might possibly have wanted or expected to have. So things like cancelled weddings, holidays, |
| 1:09.5 | just missing moments in time. I've cancelled the same |
| 1:12.4 | holiday. I think like three times. I've honestly just given up on this holiday, this family |
| 1:17.5 | holiday that was going to go on now. That's a nice thing that I've cancelled. But people have |
| 1:21.7 | been disappointed about missing much more significant things to do with friends and families and |
| 1:26.3 | work opportunities. And that's hard to |
| 1:28.1 | deal with and we can't get away from that. But we hope that in listening to today's podcast and some |
| 1:33.1 | of the ideas for action that we've got, we've got some things that might help you. And I was really |
| 1:37.6 | interested as we started reading about disappointment about kind of what it is and how is it |
| 1:41.8 | different to things like resilience or failures or setbacks. |
| 1:46.2 | Because often I think those things all almost get lumped together. |
| 1:50.0 | And I do think disappointment is something different and it feels different. |
