How is archaeology any different than say medicine, you know, other types of sciences?

And it shouldn't be monopolized by a relatively tiny group of professionals who have a much

too high opinion of themselves. Do you worry if a cataclysm happens now? A lot of what we have

discovered and built as a civilization will be lost? For all of these is that they have inherited

a shared idea and are manifesting that idea in different periods of history and different cultures

in slightly different ways. Right, ideas, what is ancient? It seems like a lot of people are

waking up to that idea. Do you have hope in the younger generation? Is it possible that some of

them survived? Is there descendants of that civilization still around today? When I said in the

series that I'm public enemy number one to archaeologists, well that actually is what I am.

Yes, it really has since the late 1980s. In fact, since about 1989, all my work was journalism

before that. And my books, I did write books in that period, but they were either 70s or the

1970s and the 1980s. They were some travel books and some current affairs books looking
