There is a branch of Christianity unfamiliar to many Christians, although you might have

had a little exposure to it. It's ancient, it's historic. It has some strength, but it also

has some ideas that are foreign to a biblical version of Christianity. I'm talking about

Eastern Orthodoxy. Welcome back to issues etc. I'm Todd Wilken. Joining us to answer the question

why I am not Eastern Orthodox. Dr. Jordan Cooper, he's executive director of Just and Center.

He's president of the American Lutheran Theological Seminary, author of several books including

Christopher Crayon, a Lutheran approach to theosis, and creator and host of a YouTube video,

titled Five Reasons I Am Not Eastern Orthodox. Dr. Cooper, welcome back.

Thanks for having me back, Todd. I think maybe the average layperson Christian in America

may not have had any exposure to Eastern Orthodoxy beyond maybe my big fat Greek wedding or

something like that. How would you introduce this significant branch of Christianity to that person?

Yeah, sure. I think Eastern Orthodoxy is a bit mysterious to a lot of people. There's

reason for that because it is very different. Also, Eastern Orthodoxy has never been the

kind of predominance Christian culture within the United States. But people do generally know if you
