Hey everyone and welcome back to Big Mad True Crime where we get Big Mad over True Crime.

I'm your host Heather Ashley and today's case is out of Oxford, California.

Small talk sucks, so let's dive in. Dave Laut, aka,

A. D. Laut, aka Dave, was born in Finley, Ohio,

but Ventura County, California was his home. By the time Dave was a senior in high school,

he stood at a whopping six foot three inches tall and he was all muscle. He excelled in various sports, but his crowning moments were in football and

track and field. In fact, during Dave's senior year, he was the number two shot putter

in the entire state of California. He was so good that he was named as part of the

Scholastics magazine All-American High School track team.

After graduating high school, Dave enrolled in Community College, where he earned the title of State Junior College Shotput Runner Up.

The following year, he went to a different college where he was named State Junior College Shotput Champion.

After becoming the Champion, he went on to attend UCLA where his athletic career took off.

During his time there, Dave became the UCLA track team captain,

won two consecutive NCAA titles,

was honored as the Southern California track and field athlete of the year,

got a gold medal for shot put at the Pan American Games and was set to participate in

the 1980 Summer Olympics.

But the US boycotted due to them being held in Moscow,

so that one didn't really pan out at least not yet.

But while his Olympic goals might have been on hold,

Dave had another major event on the horizon.

That December, he married his girlfriend Jane.
