Summary

Do you pray about your sex life? About that friend you're hoping will become more than a friend? Some of us surrender to God without ever telling Him what we want. (Isn't that what good Christians do?) For others, our prayer lives sound like one long to-do list for God. But true intimacy requires both surrender and honesty. Thankfully, Jesus shows us how to pray this way. Want to go deeper in your intimate relationships? Join us for Java with Juli.

This podcast is an outreach of authentic intimacy, a ministry dedicated to reclaiming God's design for intimacy.

One of the things I've learned since I've been teaching and speaking on sexuality is that many of us never ask God to heal sexual brokenness in our lives or marriages.

0:25.6

Maybe it's because the church has been so silent about sexuality, we think God just doesn't want to hear about it, so we resolve to live in silent suffering.

But another thing I've seen is that we're often quick to ask God

0:38.5

to change our spouse or maybe our circumstances, but we don't want to hear how he might

0:43.6

want to use those difficult situations to grow us, to grow our intimacy with him.

0:48.7

We can fall into either a habit of telling God what to do or not telling him how we feel.

My guest today is Elisa Morgan, and she's going to share with us the importance of praying with both honesty,

1:00.1

which is telling God how you really feel, and abandon, which is relinquishing the outcome and

1:05.8

the process to him. Each side of this prayer coin has its own challenges, but Jesus models for us how to pray.

1:13.7

And if we follow his example, our intimacy with Him will deepen, and that intimacy can spill over

1:19.1

into other relationships like your marriage. Before we get into my conversation with Elisa,

1:48.2

Well, Alyssa, you have done so much ministry. Would you just start by telling us, how did you get this

1:55.7

idea of writing a book called the prayer coin? There's a lot of books on prayer, and this one is unique. Where did it come

2:02.1

from? You know, as with most things that I've written, I kind of came into it kicking and

2:06.9

screaming. I mean, I'm like, what? Really, every book I've written has felt that way to me. I've just

2:12.4

been stunned at something that I felt like God showed me, and then he was actually inviting me,
