Hello and welcome back to the show.

Today's episode is with the Insta-Famous and somewhat anonymous man behind

board porn. Board porn is primarily an Instagram account that showcases surfboards in all their

curvy splendor, in nearly all their variations of shapes, sizes, construction materials.

There seems to be no exclusivity nor preference

for style. It's just a completely all-encompassing place for all creeds of surfboards.

Ron Shine is the man's name who created the account, which currently has 181,000 followers.

He's also been recently incorporating surf memes, which I totally appreciate.

But before we get to Ron, I'm going to introduce you to Ed Thompson.

Ed, along with his partner Julian Rubene, sent me their coffee table book in March of 2018.

It's called Ice Cream Headaches, Surf Culture in New York and New Jersey. The book's an

intimate portrait of surfers in those northeastern states, and I was charmed to see a few friends

of mine in the book and a few personalities that I had heard of but never met. It's a great

book, and I've actually read through it multiple times at this point, and it even inspired me to record podcasts with some of the people that they profiled.

So I was in New York just for a very brief 48 hours, trying to squeeze in a bunch of recording.

And I was hanging out with Tyler Brewer of Swell Season Radio slash podcast.

He and Ed are friends.

So he invited Ed to join us for pizza one night so that we could finally meet in person.

And I'd been meaning to connect with Ed and Julian to discuss their book, discuss expanding

some of those stories into podcast profiles.

But I didn't have enough time on this trip.

But I still wanted to introduce you, the listener, to their project.
