Today we discuss the global meat industry, the impact it's having on climate change the way it's driving deforestation and we speak to Ethan Brown

CEO of Beyond Meat one of the new companies that is transforming the way meat is consumed around the world.

Thanks for being here.

Cool, so this week we're going to talk about meat and there has been a pretty sudden

realization that meat consumption is really one of the primary drivers of climate change and a gradual and then very sudden realization

that we can do something about it.

This year in particular it has been a really highly prominent issue with the visibility of the fires across the Amazon

and the realization that most of those fires are around clearing land for

pasture for cattle which goes into beef.

Now if you add it all up, livestock uses about a third

of global global crop land and contributes 15%

of greenhouse gas emissions,

but that kind of masks the major driver around land use,

that is making this situation worse.

So there's a huge amount of big global issues that we can dig into here,

but I think it would be interesting to start by asking

Paul if he's a vegetarian.
