I am recording the intro to today's episode from my floor of my apartment in New York City.

We're really high up, but sound travels and so I can hear a lot of honks and sirens and all the New York

noises. I'm not sure if the mic is picking it up, but if you hear them, that is why.

Today I'm talking to Allison McNamara, who is the founder of the Clean Algy

skincare line Mara.

Allison started her career at Pop Sugar where she wrote, hosted, and produced

the digital media giants fashion and entertainment content for six years.

A B. C. and appearing on the Today Show

to co-anchoring Pop Sugar Now, a daily entertainment cable news show

and hosting her own show, Midnight Style on the FYI network.

Allison then took her experience to Refinery 29 and ET Online where she created,

hosted, and produced beauty videos.

She drummed up the idea for Mara on a trip to Istanbul, right around the time she parted waves

with pop sugar, which you will hear her talk about and she began developing the brand which now

consists of two products the Mara algae and meringue universal face oil and the

retinal oil and she has a new product coming as well which you will hear her talk about.

I was just really fascinated to hear about her career and how she went from working in entertainment to developing her own line and how she created a standout

product especially in a saturated market and how she created brand recognition in a relatively short amount of time.

So this episode is packed with information not only about skin, we talked about all of the things, but also about

entrepreneurship and creating products and running your own business.
