Summary

Temple Grandin was born in 1947 at a time when words like neurodivergent and neurotypical had yet to enter the lexicon, at a time when autism was not well understood, and since she didn’t develop speech until much later than most children she might have led a much different life if it hadn’t been for people around her who worked very hard to open up a space for her to thrive and explore her talents and abilities. In this episode we discuss all that as well as her latest book, Visual Thinking, all about three distinct ways that human brains create human minds to make sense of the world outside of their skulls.

1:19.2	food on the car seat and I said I'd better run out in the garage right now and
1:23.2	get that out of the car as I had forgotten to bring it in. That's just a very
1:27.3	simple example of visual plaguing that I just did right before doing this
1:31.1	interview.
1:38.2	That is the voice of the great Temple Grandin, the absolute phenomenon that is
1:43.9	Temple Grandin, the industrial engineer and PhD animal scientist and autism
1:48.8	activist who was played by Claire Danes in an HBO movie about Temple's life, which
1:56.7	earned Claire Danes an Emmy for her performance as Temple in that movie, which was
2:01.3	titled very simply, Grandin.
