There's nothing more annoying and life-arigably than to be told when you hate yourself, you hate

your body, you hate everything about you, that there's a pill you can take and you can

be a different person with a different name and a different identity and nobody will

be able to refer to that old, awful, humiliated, shameful self because that's the trans identity

kind of ideology that's being offered to these teenagers. The very often autistic, the

very often very naive and they're very often incredibly cerebral but completely disconnected

from their bodies.

I'm delighted to be here. Thanks for having me on.

I'm thrilled to have you on. I've been following your work for some time now and you've got

this new book out, which is brilliant. It's called When Kids Say They're Trans A Guide

For Thoughtful Parents, which you've written co-authored with Sasha Ayad and Lisa Marciano.

It's really interesting. I've read a lot of books on the trans question. It's something

I'm very interested in. I've read feminist critiques of the trans ideology. I've read

polemical critiques. I've read political analysis. This is something a little bit different.

This is a book that you've written in your capacity as a psychotherapist, as someone who

has counseled large numbers of young people. It's a book for parents. It's an advice book

speaking directly to parents about what to do if they're teen or their kids says they're

trans. To kick off, why did you think it was important to write a book for parents on

this issue? I think it was imperative. I think we all, well, many of us know about the

trans debate. We know how vitriolic it is. We know how much pain and anger has been around
