We, like the Athenians, are catechized into a culture that is all about consuming the

latest things. We want to be part of the latest and greatest and newest and shiniest thing that's distracting everybody.

This is the fad-driven church.

And I would note that when it comes to fads in the church, oftentimes they do not disappear completely.

They end up changing the course of the church altogether.

Luther is often accused of creating a new church. Catholics to this day blame him for that.

He was trying to reform the church. Instead of accepting the criticism, the Pope excommuncommunicated. Now that was what broke the unity
