Summary

Today I'm talking to Steph Smith (@stephsmithio). She runs Trends.co and recently got my attention when she posted on IH how she grew her podcast from 0 to 15k downloads/month. She took a really unique approach to launching her show, The Sh*t You Don't Learn in School, and I want to find out how she did it.

the opportunities and the opportunities,

0:24.5

0:53.3

You also have a ton of personal projects that you've worked on over the years, including

0:59.5

e-books, and your book called Doing Content, Right?

1:02.6

And you also have the project that you're here for today, which is a newish podcast that you

1:09.1

started called, shit, they don't teach you in schools. Is that right? Shit you don't learn in school. Yes, shit you don't learn in school. That's right. Love it with a little asterisk and the eye and shit. So nobody knows what that word means. No swearing here. No swearing here whatsoever. I started doing this thing on indie hackers. I don't know if you saw it, but we have a group called Show IH on Indie Hackers on the forum.

1:11.5

And anybody who posts in ShowIH can just basically show off

1:33.1

something that they're working on that they think other indie hackers will find interesting or useful.

1:38.4

And I've made a commitment that if somebody posts something cool that the community likes,

1:42.3

I will bring that person onto the podcast and we'll talk about it.. So that's like Show IH the group, and this is Show IH the episode, I guess.

1:50.3

And I think you posted the coolest thing last month. You had a lot of comments and discussion about

1:55.1

your podcast. Shit you don't learn in school. And I just kind of wanted to chat with you casually

2:00.2

about what it is and why you started it?
