On to the episode I'm speaking with Phil Kly. He's the author of Uncertain Ground Citizenship

in an age of endless invisible war. This is a topic which is going to be up a lot of

people's allies. This has been a thing that's been relevant ever since the war in Ukraine started

and America drew down in Afghanistan effectively ending the 20 years of war since September 11th.

There's all these questions about citizenship, who gets to call the shots when it comes to foreign

policy, what responsibility you have if you're frankly someone like me who has, you know,

decently hawkish views, but hasn't served in the military. The questions are pretty uncomfortable,

not just when they come with the comments section. So Phil is really the right person to speak with

his with. He is a veteran of the US Marine Corps and he is the author of redeployment, which won the

2014 National Book Award for Fiction and he recently released Missionaries, which was named one

of the top 10 best books of 2020 by the Wall Street Journal. So lots of great stuff here. I know
