Hey everyone good afternoon I'm'm Susan Coffin. I'm here for Attitudes Weekly ADHD experts broadcast and today we'll be talking to Dr David

Anderson of the New York-based Child Mind Institute about the ADHD ODD

connection. Research shows that a significant percentage of children with ADHD

meet the criteria for diagnosis of oppositional defiant disorder

ODD which does a very closely related mental health disorder as

characterized by behavior problems and it's often diagnosed in early childhood.

ADHD and ODD are both associated with lots of stigma.

They're both ones that parents find very difficult to understand

and to really be sure about their child's diagnosis and how to find the right

intervention and how to support their child at home and at school.

Dr. Anderson will be talking about all that, including the differences between ADHD and

ODD as well as the genetic and the environmental links to AED and ODD and how they can

affect treatment approaches.

He's going to be addressing the framework for support

for a child with OEDD and immediate practical strategies

that parents and educators can put into effect

to improve a child's behavior. So it should be a great

session. Let me introduce Dr. Anderson to you. We're so thrilled to have him. He is a

senior director of the ADHD and Behavioral Disorder Center and a senior director of national

programs and outreach at the Child Mind Institute.
