It's hard to pick the strangest idea for a film to come out of Pixar studios; a garbage collecting robot? An old man who takes his house Up with a bunch of balloons? Or maybe it's that trip inside a little girl's brain? However, the story of a rat who dreams of becoming a great chef and (Spoiler Alert) succeeds has got to be in the running.
And of course, we wouldn't dream of doing a Pixar movie without our resident animation expert MIchael Vogel to help us out.
If you haven't seen this incredible film you can buy or stream it right here.

0:00.0 | Hi, this is Steve, so obviously I love movies. I mean, if five years of doing the |
0:05.4 | cine files doesn't prove that, I don't know what will. But something I love just |
0:09.8 | about as much as food. In fact, I subscribe to way more food podcasts than movie |
0:14.4 | podcasts, including KCRW's Good Food, Dan Pashman Sportful, and my current favorite |
0:19.7 | world-renowned chef, David Chang's podcast, The Dave Chang Show, and its fantastic |
0:24.5 | Spinoff recipe club. Now, that's a lot of hours I spend listening to people talk |
0:29.2 | about food, but the thing is, a lot of those foodies also love movies, and I can't |
0:35.2 | tell you how many times I've heard famous chefs say that the single most accurate |
0:40.6 | movie about working in a restaurant is Ratatouille. That's right, for great chefs, |
0:45.7 | the Pixar animated film about a rat cooking hot cuisine gives the best |
0:51.5 | representation of what working in a restaurant is really like. Don't believe me? |
0:55.8 | Well, you might want to check it out for yourself by going to cinephiles.net where |
0:59.2 | you can buy or stream Ratatouille along with every other movie we've ever reviewed. |
1:03.3 | And if you happen to support the show on patreon.com slash the cine files, right now you |
1:10.1 | could be listening to us answering a question from a patron who wanted to know if we |
1:14.5 | thought studios checking diversity boxes, no matter how well-intentioned, could end |
1:20.2 | up damaging films. Needless to say, John and I had a lot to say on that topic. Oh, |
1:25.5 | and one more thing, you didn't think we could do a Pixar movie without inviting our |
1:29.8 | favorite animation expert geek buddy Michael Vogel back to the show. So, that's checking |
1:35.9 | boxes on patreon and part one of Ratatouille with special guest Michael Vogel this Friday |
1:42.1 | on the cine files. How can we claim to represent the name of Gustav if we don't uphold his |
1:47.6 | most cherished belief? And what belief is that, Matt Moiselle Tatou? Anyone can cook. |
