Summary

It’s the final part of our three-part series on new relationships! Ali is joined by Talia Koren, host of the Dating Intentionally podcast, to dive into navigating each phase of your budding partnership with confidence. Check out part one (ep # 234.5) and part two (ep # 238.5) for tips on navigating the first three months and first six months.

In part three, Ali and Talia explore what reaching the one-year mark in a relationship looks like. Topics include: moving in together, starting engagement conversations, navigating career shifts and family introductions, and keeping the spark alive after a year. They also reflect on celebrating anniversaries, working through anxieties, and the key conversations that helped their relationships grow. Listener questions cover whether it’s too soon to talk marriage, how to handle changes in sex and intimacy, and what to do if you’re still unsure about long-term commitment. Overall, we’re chatting about reflection, growth, and alignment as couples enter a new stage together.

Welcome to Comparing Notes. I'm Allie from Finding Mr. Height. And I'm Talia from dating intentionally.

0:16.7

And we are teaming up to support you beyond the early dating stages and through the different

0:20.8

stages of a new relationship. Yep, we both have had a ton of experience going on, lots of dates that

0:26.1

actually led to getting into long-term relationships. And we're so excited to share our wisdom with you

0:30.8

to help you avoid the pitfalls and the anxiety spirals along the way. So this is part three, the last

0:36.1

part in our series about the different milestones in relationships. And we'll be covering the one year mark, which is a big deal in a relationship. Yeah. So in part one, we talked about the three-month mark. Part two, we dove into the six-month mark. And you can go back and listen to both. They're in the show notes. Yes. And I highly recommend it. I mean, we've been getting great feedback on both part one and two. People are finding this very helpful because it's like we're really getting into the nitty gritty of each milestone, which does come with different kind of things you want to focus on, things you're thinking about. Yeah, I think some of the feedback that I've gotten on this series is how people appreciate how granular we've gotten.

1:12.2

Because I think there's a lot of high level advice out there.

1:15.8

But it's like, okay, but in the day to day, those things that might seem small but eventually add up to be larger, I think end up being super important and don't get talked about as much.

1:26.3

Totally agree.

1:27.1

Totally agree. I know I didn't really hear

1:29.2

about any of the things that we were talking about anywhere else, whether I was seeking it out or not.

1:34.7

It's like I was in therapy and then I had like what I was scrolling through on Instagram and that

1:38.5

was kind of it and the books, I guess. But it's still, it's still not as specific. I don't know.

1:43.8

Oh, I think it's also just really helpful to hear from other people of like, we're going to start with our experiences on hitting the one year mark, but like to really hear that real life, here's what happened to me. Yeah. So we're going to, for this episode, we're going to start in sharing our experiences with hitting the one year mark. If you're just jumping in, I have been in my

2:01.3

relationship now for three years and change, and we are just about to celebrate our one-year

2:06.4

wedding anniversary. This will come out, I think, after we've done that. But yeah, so that's just

2:12.5

a snapshot of where I am. And, Allie, what about you? I'm at a year and a half with my partner. We have moved in together as of, please don't look behind me if you're watching the video because there's a lot of boxes still. We moved in together like a week and a half ago. Wow, you still haven't unpacked everything, Allie. What the hell? No kidding. Congratulations. It's amazing. Keio, I'm excited for your anniversary and you have a big trip. And I'm just, I'm excited for all your things.

2:38.2

Yeah. Okay. So I'll share a little bit of my experience first, hitting the one year mark with Johnny. So first of all, I just want to point out. I just want to say, we chose our anniversary date randomly. So everyone always asks, like, do you count the anniversary from

2:51.4

when you first met on the apps or met in person, wherever? Do you count from the first date?

2:56.0

Do you count from when you were officially boyfriend, girlfriend? I don't think it matters. Like,

3:00.0

you do you. No. We picked a date between when we first match and our first in-person date.

3:05.6

I love that. Well, especially because for you, y'all had a little bit
