On the 17th of May 2025, I did a 24-hour live podcast to raise money for an incredible charity, Victim Support UK. The stream was

recorded and each session that took place has been edited into an episode for you to listen to.

Because this was a live stream, the sound quality is not as polished as the regular episodes of the podcast usually are.

I'm certain many of you will be familiar with my next guest.

You might recognise him from his TV show, Secrets of a Murder Detective, or you might have

read one of his books, including Murder Investigation Team. He was in the Metropolitan Police

for over 30 years, and with 15 of those spent investigating murder and terrorism offences at Scotland Yard.

Steve, for coming. So are you normally up this early? Have I woken you up? You know, what's the

life? I've got two young kids so they don't let me sleep. Don't worry. So for those of you who don't know

your work and what you've done, can you just tell us a little bit more about what you've,

what you've achieved through your career so far? Okay, so I joined the police very young. I was 20,

just basically out of school.

And I started policing in London where I grew up, which was nice. So I find myself arresting people I went to school with and that, but that was character building. And then very early on,

what I realized that what I enjoyed doing in the police, and it sounds corny, is like, just catching bad guys. That's what I just, I just love doing it. And then very early on, what I realized is what I enjoyed doing in the police, and it sounds corny, is like just catching bad guys.

And then when you do that, it kind of brings you down a route of being a detective because you want to catch worse bad guys.

And then sort of your career progresses because of that, become a detective in 2000.
