Our guest is Janssen Bradshaw, who's a former elementary school librarian with a master's degree in library and information studies. She now stays home with her four daughters and runs the blog every day reading, which helps parents make reading an enjoyable, simple part of their family.

I wanted to let you know that since Janssen and I originally recorded this conversation two years ago, she and her husband have started an amazing company called Savvy Reading that provides online reading instruction for children pre-K through summer.

My daughter Sally has been participating in Savvy for the past year, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Sally was significantly below grade level at the end of last school year with her reading. I think mostly due to distance learning through kindergarten and first grade with major gaps in her reading instruction.

So we signed her up for Savvy at the beginning of last summer, and she has loved it. She attends a 25 minute online class with a live teacher Monday through Thursday. So four days a week, she's working with a live teacher on her reading.

They use games and stories to build reading skills. And as a former high school English teacher, I can tell you that the curriculum is so well done with incredibly effective teaching pedagogy woven in. And it's so fun for kids.

Sally's reading has soared this year, and she is now reading above her grade level, and most importantly, feeling so excited and confident about reading.
