Hi, I'm Katie.

0:08.3

And I'm Erin.

0:08.8

And you're listening to Rope Drop and Park Hop.

0:11.2

And I am sitting in the queue to purchase Sweetheart's Night tickets.

0:16.4

So we may have to pause here in a minute, but we're going to try and get through the news first.

0:20.3

I have two queues open. I'm at 16 minutes on one, 20 minutes on the other. Okay, not so bad. No. Here's your weather report for the day. It was 65 degrees yesterday in Boise, Idaho. December 10th. In the middle of December. Mm-hmm. It was lovely. It is really nice. It's just weird. It makes me a little nervous because last time it was this mild in December, we had Snowmageddon.

0:43.8

I know. Somebody mentioned that at work yesterday and I was like, don't even talk like that. I know.

0:48.5

Where our kids were out of school for like four weeks straight. It was so bad. It was a little bit hellish.

0:53.6

Could not get here. And I mean, some of you who live in wintry places are probably like rolling your eyes. And that's fine. We don't live in a crazy wintry place. It's a little wintry, but not like super wintry. And so our snow plows were not. We're not prepared for that kind of stuff. People were buying and selling snow rakes for their roofs to keep the ice off of their roofs for, like, hundreds of dollars. There was this black market for snowblowers because everything was sold out. It was hard to get in and out of your driveway. And in your neighborhood even. Subdivations were not being touched. They just weren't even trying. They were trying to keep up on the main roads.

1:28.3

Yeah, you had to have four-wheel drive just to get out of your neighborhood. Yep. And then when it started to thaw, all of the drain grates were covered. And so people had to go out and start chipping away at the drain grates to open them up. Yep. It was crazy. It was flooded everywhere. It was fun-ish for like a few days and then it got old real fast.

1:46.2

That is my nightmare.

1:47.7

Like really, I can't live through one of those again. We had one lady in our neighborhood who had an SUV that had a four-wheel drive, but the four-wheel drive was out. Oh, boy. And it was rear-wheel drive only, and she would get stuck in front of my house every single day. And so, like, three of us had to go out every day at the same time and help push her down the road. It was, it was, it was terrible. It really was. And yes, the kids were out of school forever. And even our kids even got tired of it. They were like, we're ready to go back to school now.

2:17.6

It was Christmas break. They went to Christmas break and then it happened. Like the first day that they were supposed to go back to school, they were like, I think they went back one day. Did they? Did they? And then got, yes, and then they were home for another two weeks. And part of the problem is back then our school district was on a weird calendar where finals didn't happen

2:34.6

until after Christmas break.

2:37.8

So by the time they went back, yes, by the time they went back to school, they had forgotten

2:41.2

everything that they learned in that first semester.

2:43.1

They forgot their names.

2:44.0

We're not prepared.

2:44.7

This was before COVID too.

2:46.2

So we weren't used to like handling things at home.

2:49.3

Right.

2:49.3

There were no laptops that got sent home
