Friendships can be tricky.

I think we have all experienced a friendship or two that has gone sour.

I know I have. I have been close with people that I thought would never

leave my life, but sometimes they do for one reason or another. That's just how things go. Individuals can

grow apart. They become friends with other people. They just simply move on. I'm the type of person

that doesn't care to dwell on lost relationships too often.

There is no point, really, but if you talk to me about something like this 10 years ago,

it would have been a different story, I think. When I was a teenager in high school, everything

seemed to be on a larger scale than it actually was. An unanswered text message meant that the recipient hated

me. A weird look that was given while passing each other in the hallway at school meant

that I did something wrong, when in reality both scenarios and more that I would concoct in

my own head were most likely just a figment of my imagination, my paranoia, my self-consciousness.

Except in this one instance, I remember I was going into my senior year of high school,

and I hadn't seen my best friend at the time all summer long. I was busy moving, so we

weren't able to hang out often, but we talked from time to time.

A lot less than usual, but this was also back in the days before unlimited texting plans,

too.

So if memory serves me correctly, we had to wait until after 7 p.m. for phone calls and

texts to be free.

Anyway, I remember the first day of senior year and she avoided me like the plague.
