Hello, I'm Sean Curran, and this is today in Parliament from BBC Radio 4 for Wednesday

the 23rd of July, when there were calls for community cohesion following protests outside

a hotel housing asylum seekers.

And to calm down a potentially riotous situation.

Also tonight, a minister tries to reassure pensioners.

Our party has absolutely zero plans to change anything about the triple lock.

And peers call for the water industry to be nationalised.

But first, Essex Police has denied claims that it bust counter-demonstrators

to a protest outside a hotel in Epping, which is being used to house asylum seekers.

There have been a series of protests outside the Bell Hotel, after an asylum seeker,

was charged with sexual assault last week.

The leader of Reform UK, Nigel Farage, called on the chief constable of Essex to resign

and shared a video online, which he said showed that the police transported left-wing protesters to the hotel.

The Commons started its summer break last night, but the House of Lords was sitting today,

and the Conservative former MP for Epping Forest

and former Commons Deputy Speaker, Lady Lang,

said it was the duty of all elected representatives

to calm the situation down.
