Hey everyone, I'm Susan Coffin. I'm here for Attitude Magazine's weekly ADHD experts

broadcast. Thank you so much for joining us today. We are very pleased to be talking with Dr. Lori Maitland about skills of high school students need to learn before they graduate.

Dr. Maitland has long experience coaching, college students, and other individuals with

learning and attention differences and she has observed that

students who learn to advocate for themselves while they're still in high school are

much more likely to succeed both in college and in life in general after high school.

So today she's going to help us understand how we as parents can help our children learn to ask effectively for what they need to succeed and cope with setbacks when they occur.

Let me introduce Theresa Maitland to you.

She is a PhD who's been in the field of education for over 40 years, working in a wide variety of programs

with people of all ages with learning and attention differences.

In addition to coaching hundreds of college students over the years she's also co-authored

one of the first books published on the topic of coaching college students and

more importantly perhaps co-authored a coaching training program to teach others how to coach college

students and she's also participated in several research studies

investigating the impact of coaching on undergraduates including those of

ADHD and LD so she's a coaching on undergraduates including those day B. H.D.

So she's a perfect person to tell us how to coach our high school students

to get them ready for college.
