Summary

In today's episode, I'm joined by author, freelance writer, and mom of 5, Brittney Smart. Brittney's book, The Five-Minute Time In: Effectively Re-Engaging With Your Child(ren) in Just Five Minutes a Day, was born out of her own journey to connect deeper with her children. After a period of feeling disengaged and in apathetic autopilot, she discovered a habit that would make her children feel seen, heard, understood, liked, and loved.

Brittany mentions one of the most powerful things

0:54.6

she noticed was the importance of eye contact, how just taking moments here and there to really

1:00.3

look in her kids' eyes was very powerful. And that's because when we look in each other's eyes,

1:08.1

oxytocin is released, which is the love and connection hormone. It

1:11.4

1:18.3

Scientists will take two random people from the street and have them gaze in each other's eyes

1:23.8

and then rate their feelings about that other person, their assumptions about that other

1:28.6

person. And consistently, when people have engaged in eye gazing, they rate the other person,

1:34.5

who is a complete stranger to them, more positively, as someone who is more of someone they might

1:39.7

be a friend with. I find that really fascinating. Well, as we approach summer vacation, some of you are just

1:46.5

about to slide into it. Some of you probably are in the midst of it. This is the perfect time to

1:52.0

really connect with our kids, if you have them, or with loved ones. We do a lot of connecting in

1:58.0

warmer seasons of our lives. So in this episode, I want you to be
