Summary

Taylor Townsend was once asked to take time off from playing tennis competitively by the USTA to go "work on her health" (despite being the No. 1 junior tennis player in the world). Fast forward, today she's a new mom and recently played in the doubles final at the US Open. For episode 223, I'm talking to Taylor all about body acceptance and how she stands as a role model to women everywhere. We also chat about what it was like coming back to sport after pregnancy, the badass catsuit she dawned in her recent matches, and what she's looking forward to next.

Taylor Townsend. She's a pro tennis player, she's a new mom, and I would argue that she is an

1:04.0

advocate for body acceptance. Taylor and I have a really, really beautiful conversation

1:10.8

about what that has looked like for her, not just since having her son eaten, but in her time as

1:18.2

a professional tennis player. She gets really open and honest about the challenges that she's had

1:24.3

with her body, sharing stories about her time early in the sport. When the USTA recommended,

1:33.0

she take some time to work on her fitness. I wish that I was making this up at the time. She was

1:38.8

the number one ranked junior tennis player in the world. I know, I know. We talk all about that,

1:46.1

she gives us some insight as to what it felt like to stand up for herself, and then we bring it to

1:52.3

the now. We talk about her comeback, and yes, it is a comeback because Taylor is playing so,

1:59.7

so well now, just 18 months after having her baby ate in. She was recently in the doubles final

2:08.2

at the US Open, which I had the good fortune of being there for. Taylor talks about how that felt.

2:14.2

She also gets very candid about where she hopes to go in the future, and I adore the dialogue we

2:20.8

had about her choice to wear a bomb, bomb as an understatement, cassoot at the Open, both in honor

2:30.3

of Serena as she played in what could be her last ever match, and to honor herself and the progress

2:38.0

that she's made, not just again since having the baby, but in accepting her body and embracing
