I'm doing great.

Where did you grow?

In 1954, my great-grandparents bought a vineyard up in Oakville and so my grandparents were

living there when I was a young child and so I think it was maybe a week after I was

born I spent my first time up there and was there pretty much every couple weeks for my entire life

And right after high school you got a job in the wine business in that area? Yes, I decided at a young age I had a great English teacher who, when I was talking about

the vineyard and going up there and playing in the vines, she said, you should really think about that. so I started to for the first time this was junior year so I was

17 years old so I started calling around trying to see if anybody would

stage me for a little internship and how that go?

We're lucky that it worked out because most people were not comfortable

of hiring someone who wasn't legally allowed to drink so So it turned out being my best friend's godfather

was willing to take a chance and he had a winery called Elizabeth Spencer which is in Rutherford and he hired me to do everything. Most of it, I just sat in the car and asked

him questions about what wine tasted like and why certain wines were a big deal, obviously, I'd spent time on the internet researching what it was all about.

And his winemaker was a guy named Matthew Rorick, who then helped me learn a little bit

and gave me a half barrel to start practicing with and

just all began from there. I couldn't throw the bug at that point.

His Matt Roark does forlarn hope these days. Yeah and so Matthew was a incredible, he gave me my first fermentation vessels, which were I'm pretty

sure to sort of trash cans and he must have gotten at Home Depot.
