And today, we're talking about one of the most famous women martial artists to ever appear on screen, Cynthia Ross Rock.

The inspiration for the character of Sonia Blade in the Mortal Kombat franchise. And also, the only, I think, white female

martial arts star to become big in Hong Kong movies. She is in one or two, like, certifiable

Hong Kong classics. She's in Samo Hang's Millionaires Express, and she's in Yes, Madam,

probably the most famous, like,

girls fighting Hong Kong martial arts movie of all time, where she co-starred with Michelle

Yo.

She's also in a lot of, I guess, kind of direct-to-video crap.

I say that with affection.

As a performer, she's someone that didn't make it big in America and go to Hong Kong.

Her story of how she got there is really interesting in that she was an award-winning

martial arts performer, not in combat, but in forms.

So like weapons, forms, different styles.

You can find videos online of her doing like snake style and stuff like that.

And she was doing it at a time when there wasn't even a woman's category.

She actually had to perform in the male category because that's all that there was.

And she kept winning.

And the story goes that seasonal films who made a bunch of Hong Kong style productions in America were looking for the new Bruce Lee.

So that was In Sing Young, the guy who discovered and gave Jackie Chan, his big break was

drunken master and Snake in the Eagle Shadow. And Kur Yun, who would go on a direct, yes madame,
