Well today I'm going to give you a little Richard Sib's quote and I'm afraid I don't know from

which work this comes from but here it is.

It's just three lines. God's people are gainers by all their losses,

stronger by all their weakness,

and better for all their crosses.

Well, let's start at the top.

First, this is true of God's people. It is not true of people in general, and this is very important.

God's promises are for his own people, his own special people, and we are so blessed,

tremendously blessed to be called his children.

So what does Sibbs mean by gainers by all their losses?

Let's consider the Apostle Paul.

He had quite a reputation among the Jews before his conversion,

kind of a superstar.

But regarding his former status and

accomplishments, he says this in Philippians 3, 7 and 8. But what things were

gain to me? These I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also

count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my

Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things and

count them as rubbish that I may gain Christ.

So the Apostle Paul moved all those things that were in the plus column in his life over to the minus column.

All those losses he exchanged for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ
