Welcome back to another episode and we have made it into the month of August and so naturally

in the month of August we thought you know Cody we're in the heart of the off season. Let's talk about the best defensive players of the last 15 years and you know maybe we will pick like a top eight by position does that seem like a nice even

number does it seem like a good way to do it I mean it's it's quite literally an even

number why why a pen why did you decide to settle on eight of all numbers?

Okay, well, I'm very glad you asked.

Eight is very important.

10, 10 feels like too many,

and five feels like too few.

Because I think the way we want to do this is we want to sort of

have a discussion about defense and about how defense has changed

over the last 15 years and what has made some of these players

the most successful defenders in our estimation.

Defense is obviously the squishest thing to try to evaluate in basketball.

The defensive stats historically have been very sparse, very limited,

sometimes misleading, and we have more data now but it's still something that at least in my

process and my assessment is a very very difficult thing to pinpoint without a lot of understanding of context and a lot of

film study and trying to map up some of the limited statistics we do have and even then you're saying like you know how super confident am I maybe

you're fairly confident but it's just a different animal than evaluating offense

where we just have so many measuring tools. It's very clear to see
