Stacey obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Missouri State University and went on to receive an MD and a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Arkansas. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in the Department of Molecular Biology and his residency training in the Department of Pathology.

Stacey's clinical foci include many areas of clinical pathology, including clinical microbiology
