My name is Greg Klunis and in this episode I want to talk about the role that emotions play when we make decisions.

Here's the thing, did you know that decisions aren't logical?

Sure, we can logically think through our options, but when we get to the moment in which we need to actually make a decision, it's all about the emotions. The concept behind this was originally presented by a neuroscientist named Antonio Damasio.

Here's the story.

Back in the 1990s, Antonio worked with several clients who, due to brain lesions, were not able to make decisions.

Virtually everything else about them seemed normal.

They were capable, intelligent, they could logically consider all of their options, they knew what they could do, they just couldn't decide what they should do.

Now after further study, Antonio realized that the reason they couldn't make decisions

was because those lesions stopped them from being able to generate emotions

towards those options that they had.
