that we've mentioned a lot through this podcast. And that's Hong Kong Oter, Herman Yow.

You know, regular listeners will know that Justin and I have a shared love of Hong Kong cinema,

specifically that great period from the 70s to the 90s, that great flowering of energy

and creativity that brought us John Wu, Wang Karwai, Stanley Kwan,

Jackie Chan, Choi Hark, and of course, an O-Tur named...

Wang Jing.

Well, Wang Jing.

But also Herman Yao, a man who has made over 70 movies.

But as we discussed at the end of the last episode, we weren't sure where we stood with him.

Because Hermann Yao, he hasn't really made consistently anyone's favorite films.

Me and you, we've gone and seen new Hermann Yao films in the theater, only to leave with our heads held low, disappointed.

Well, he's made so many movies.

They run the gamut from comedies to dramas to thrillers, horror films, gangster movies,

family films, erotica.

They're all over the place in terms of style and also, I would say, quality.

I would say that one of the things that kind of kept me away from him is that he didn't

really dabble that often in the tried and true genre of action film. They just don't really

seem to interest him. He has made some, but they were never his main focus. I was probably

maybe a little more fond towards Hermanniao than you, because probably his two best-known
