Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Rubber Puff. There's a part of us our human behavior that is incredibly prevalent throughout humanity and yet when it isn't happening to us and we watch it happening to other people,

we scratch our heads and say,

what's wrong with them?

Why can't they just do, fill in the blank?

I have a relative of mine who loves to point out how some of our relatives' lives

haven't turned out well.

In her words, how stupid they are.

How could they do that? That's just stupid. And she loves to share her stories

and opinions about this. But I kept talking to her about the fact that it's good to understand

why people do that because someday you may be in the same

situation of doing something that seems, in your words, very stupid.

And my prediction was right. Her life hasn't turned out all that well.

So today I want to talk about this behavior.

But what is this behavior I am talking about?

In many ways it's very simple. A person has a problem. It's incredibly

evident to everyone else what they need to do and they don't do it. That's it. Just a couple months ago an associate of mind was talking

about a patient that she saw only one time. She came in and she had been with this man

for many years and six times the police had gotten involved because of

domestic violence and my friend told her you know if you go back you're probably

going to end up dead she only saw her once but a few weeks after she saw her, she had learned that, yes, she had gone back, and yes, she had died.

This, of course, is a very tragic situation.
