Summary

Dr. Kathleen Ethier joins me on the podcast this week to talk about the latest Youth Risk Behavior Survey. According to new data from CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), America’s youth are engulfed in a growing wave of sadness and violence, with teen girls and teens who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and questioning (LGBQ+) experiencing extremely high levels of violence and mental health challenges. While solving this mental health crisis seems overwhelming, one step forward is to focus on the place where 95% of kids spend much of their time – school. But how exactly can schools help to support our teens, and what can we do to further support our schools? https://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/2023/increased-sadness-and-violence-press-release.html Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) / 1) https://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/whatworks/what-works-overview.htm 2) Call or text 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline if you are experiencing mental health-related distress or are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support.
