0:19.3	Wasn't sure what to study next, but one of the things
0:22.4	that I noticed during Sunday morning worship service was that we were singing a number of different
0:27.6	hymns that were talking about holy or holiness. And it occurs to me that we often use these
0:34.3	churchy sort of words, and yet we don't talk about what they mean.
0:38.3	And sometimes holiness doesn't mean quite what we think, and so I thought it would be worth
0:42.8	going into a little depth on what holiness means. And I don't know how long a study this is.
0:47.7	I'll let you know when we get to the end, I suppose.
0:50.8	But this is a concept that is introduced relatively early in the Bible with no particular
0:57.9	definition. So the very first mention of something being holy is in Genesis, and you may be
1:06.5	familiar with this particular verse. It's Genesis 2, verse 3. Then God blessed the seventh day
1:14.8	and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
1:22.4	So this is obviously in the midst of the creation story, and it gives us the Sabbath day, and the
1:29.1	Sabbath day at that time, meaning Saturday, and says that this day is somehow different.
1:36.2	This day is holy.
1:39.4	Now, there are two definitions that I find when I go to a Bible dictionary and I look up holy.
1:45.8	The first one is set apart to the service or worship of God, hollowed, sacred, reserved from profane or common use, holy vessels, a holy priesthood.
1:57.9	And the second one is spiritually whole or sound of unimpaired innocence and virtue,
2:05.2	free from sinful affections, pure in heart, godly, pious, irreproachable, guiltless, and acceptable to God.
