The Bible Study Podcast episode 204. Today, the Bible Study podcast continues the study of newness

0:06.6

with new life. Welcome to the Bible Study podcast. I'm your host, Chris Christensen. With this

0:20.4

week's episode,

0:21.3

I believe we will end the study on newness. This will be a seven-part series on newness,

0:26.8

and we're going to end with new life. It's really interesting if you look at the New Testament,

0:32.8

particularly and particularly the Gospel of John, how often the word life appears. In the Gospels especially,

0:41.6

but throughout the Bible and throughout the New Testament especially, again, that is a theme

0:47.0

that we keep coming back to. You'll recognize familiar verses like whoever finds their life

0:53.6

will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my

0:57.1

sake will find it from Matthew 10, verse 39. Or perhaps John 1, verse 4, in him was life, and that

1:05.8

1:13.9

and his sheep, Jesus says, the thief comes only to kill and destroy. I have come that they may have

1:20.8

life and have it to the full. It is God's intention that we have a full life, not just a life hereafter, not just a life when we are done, not just a eternal life sort of thing, but it is my understanding that God intends that our life be better now.

1:40.8

Now better is a relative term, obviously, And I want to look at two particular sections of

1:46.6

scripture that have to do with this new life. And what is different between this new life

1:52.9

and that old life that we're moving away from? The first one is Romans 6. And in Romans 6 it says this, what shall we say then?

2:06.2

Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

2:09.6

By no means, we are those who have died to sin.

2:13.2

How can we live in it any longer?

2:15.7

Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ

2:19.1

Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death

2:26.0

in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead, through the glory of the Father,
