Summary

On Comic-Con weekend, we convene to discuss the latest rash of re-casting comic book heroes. Thor is now a woman! Captain America is black! We’re all for increasing diversity in a medium whose classic characters are dominated by white men, but what are the right ways to do it? And are there wrong ways, or does every little bit help?

0:17.2	And we're here with a little episode that I think is going to be timely.
0:21.0	We're releasing this over Comic-Con weekend, and it's about the news, news that has
0:26.0	happened in practically yesterday, or at least in the last couple of weeks, which is,
0:31.0	we're going to talk about recasting comic book characters.
0:35.2	And I don't mean recasting characters in comic book movies. You know, like whoever is playing
0:41.2	who is playing Daredevil in this TV show? It's not Ben Affleck because now he's
0:44.7	Batman. Speaking of recasting. And then there's different Batman's
0:48.9	I wonder there's probably a chain and Captain America used to be the human
0:52.5	torch. And that's not what this episode is about.
0:55.0	This episode is about, although we may get there because we'll go off the rails and we'll end up there.
0:59.7	But I want to state our initial premise so that you can see where we go from here.
1:04.2	Our initial premise is there was news recently about how Marvel Comics is going to change the character of Thor.
1:11.5	And there's going to be a female Thor, and she's not like another character who is now taking the mantle,
1:17.9	and it's not like she, Thor or something like that.
1:20.4	She is going to be Thor.
1:21.6	So the new aspect of Thor is going to be a woman.
1:23.5	And then we also heard that, as announced on the Colbert rapport, that Sam Wilson, the
1:30.2	Falcon, who is also, by the way, the most interesting character I thought, and the, like, the best
1:34.7	thing about the latest Captain American movie, which I liked a lot, but I thought the Falcon
