In this episode, I thought it would be good to take a look back at the year, so I put

together a number

Dr. Deborah King. Deborah is an advanced practice registered nurse with a PhD in clinical

psychology. She had a near-death experience in 2008. Okay, so what happened with the patient

that we resuscitated? Yes, so, so I, shortly after that, car accident, I started nursing school and went through

my training and wound up working as a critical care nurse at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

And I was in the medical intensive care unit.

We were resuscitating gentlemen who had come in for a mixed medical presentation and

trauma and had an unexpected cardiac arrest.

I would say we were always ready for it in that setting, but we really didn't have any

reason to believe it would happen at that point with him, and it did.

And the resuscitation was long, tedious, and was not going well.

And resuscitation in the 70s, the protocols were very different than they are now.

And it was very much rounds, as we would call them, of drugs, defibrillations, different techniques

that we would do.

I was the charge nurse working with the chief resident.

And we were getting that sinking feeling after a while that it was just not going well.
