Welcome to the Boneyard with Steve Robertson. As always, I am your good friend and host Steve Robertson here for our annual year in review show. That's right. Just two days left in 2023. It's been a great year for me personally and professionally, but it wasn't necessarily the best year for Mississippi State Athletics. But we're going to talk about some of the top moments today of the year,

athletically, for Mississippi State.

The thing that we hope for for 2024 is, of course,

that we all have a great year personally and professionally.

But we'd like to see the Bulldogs have a better year on the fields and courts of play. We did have again some

high moments in 2023 but I wouldn't say that 2023 was a great year for state in many respects.

But I'm ready to put this one in the books. You know what I'm saying? We're also hopeful

about football season. Things didn't go nearly as well as we'd hoped.

We were hopeful for a bounce back in baseball.

We didn't get that.

So we're optimistic that we can turn things around in 2024.

We did make the NCAA tournament on the men's and women's side,

of course, in soccer.

So we feel great about

those things, but we all are happier when we're competitive in everything. You know, it's like

you think about those great years where, you know, we get to bowl games, we get to regionals,

perhaps get to Omaha, and then in addition to that, we make the NCAA tournament,

but it wasn't a great year.

Let's just go ahead and establish that now. We're just going to kind of call it for what it is.

First year with Zach Selman at the helm of Mississippi State, not an indictment on him by any stretch of the imagination.

Sometimes it takes a little while to get going because you

inherit a lot of coaches. And he's made his first major hire since being our athletic director
