Today, Saga and I are joined by Jeremy W. Peters. He covers American politics at the New York Times.

He has written a new book in Surgeon C. Howard Publkin's Lost Their Party and got everything

they ever wanted. That second part of the title is one of the most defining questions of a

realignment era in American politics. It's actually the question we first got interested in.

We'll be first starting covering the realignment back in 2019. So this is the perfect episode

to learn a bit more about domestic politics. I know with all the Ukraine news that we're

going to be looking to learn more. So if you missed my episode with Dimitri Kavinas last week,

go check that out. Unfortunately, that episode has not aged poorly because of its relevancy.

about insurgency, looking at the future, the past of the Republican party. It's actually the topic

of this podcast started on. It's a topic which has swayed a bunch of different ways over the

few over the past few years. So we're excited to learn that your book is really looking at this,

not just in terms of who's up, who is down this week, but this longer 30, 40 year story. Let's just

start here. I love the subtitle of the book because it sums up where Soggar and I are.
