I'm Sebastian Payne and in this episode we're going to

be looking back on a tumultuous political year both in Britain and abroad. I'm

delighted to be joined for our last episode of 2016 by George Parker, our political editor, Julian

Tet, our US managing editor, Chief Economics Commentator Martin Wolf, and

political correspondent Henry Mans. Thank you all for joining. So what a year it has been.

2016 will certainly go down as the year of great political upsets.

Looking back on all the events is going to be no easy task, but I'm hoping that our FT experts can help us get through it.

Let's begin with the UK. The year began with David Cameron's new deal from Brussels,

which then led into the intensity of the long and short

referendum campaigns. Then we had Brexit swiftly followed by Nigel Farage's

resignation, the coup against Labour's Jeremy Corbyn, Nigel Farage's latest resignation from UKIP,

three colourful leadership contests, Theresa May's sudden elevation to Downing Street,

Mr Corbyn's second huge man from his party's leadership, the yellow

dole of the Liberal Democrat enrichment, and the process of Brexit commencing in
