Ome Akhandam Satchidhanandam, Avang Manasagoccharam,

Atmanam, Akhelah Dharam, Ashraya Bhehishasidhdi.

I take refuge in the self, the indivisible, the existence consciousness, bliss absolute,

beyond the reach of words and thought and the substratum of all for the attainment of my cherished desire.

So we are on this chapter which is discussing the nature of the Jiva.

Remember the original intent of the chapter.

The intent of the chapter is what are the different types of

adhyaropa, superimposition that we are doing about ourselves?

What do we think about ourselves?

Different people, different philosophers.

And in the process of this examination, we are going to uncover the real nature of the self.

So that's what's happening in this chapter.

It's also a very nice whirlwind tour through Indian philosophy.

Different schools of Indian philosophy are going to come forward on one issue.

Who am I?

The way to unlock this chapter, I mentioned it last time, we have to keep three things in mind.

One is shruti, one is yukti, one is anubhuti.

So when each philosopher, each thinker comes and presents a theory of the self, we have to ask that what is the argument, what reason are you giving? If body is the self, what is the reason?

Then, Anubhuti, what experience can be called upon to support this position? So Anubhuti.

And then third, Shruti, can you give any quotation, any support, scriptural support for this position?
