Now in 2nd Nephi Chapter 2, the choice is very clearly spelled out for us.

It's an absolute masterpiece of a chapter as far as its doctrine is concerned.

It's one of the best in the entire book of Mormon, to the point that other later prophets will draw upon it and teach similar principles in similar ways.

Second E. F. 2 is the foundation for Second E. 9. Because second E. F. 2 is the foundation for 2nd E. 5.

Because 2nd E. 2 is Lehi teaching Jacob and 2nd E.

9 is Jacob teaching the rest of us.

And so much of what he conveys are things he learned from his dad.

He was a good student. No wonder he ended up such a good teacher.

Alma later on will teach in chapter 12 as well as chapter 42.

Principles about agency and the plan of salvation that are first expressed most clearly by

Lehi here in 2.

This is foundational scripture so it's really worth some sustained attention on our part.

It's also important to realize who the initial audience was.

There is so much profound truth in chapter one that's meant for all of us but he was targeting layman

and lemule with most of what he said in chapter two his target audience at least for

the first oh 11 or 12 chapter 12 verses is Jacob. He'll then expand it out to the rest of the family

for the second half of the chapter, but the fact that Jacob is the principal

audience should tell us some things too.

Now to understand it though we need to understand Jacob as a person and we haven't had much opportunity

to do so yet.
