I learned this story from a friend of mine Rob Bell maybe five or six years ago when I was living in New York I heard him share this story and I was like oh I shared it with my community many times via my email list and it just it just kind of touches

something deep within me every time I hear these two questions so I'm excited

to share them with you today.

Here goes, my friend.

Thousands of years ago, there was a man named Akiva.

He was a master teacher, a scholar, and the kind of person you'd go to when you were struggling with the deep mysteries and challenges of life.

One chilly evening, Akiva was walking to his home.

While he was walking, he was in deep thought, which he might expect from a master teacher.

Since he was deep in thought, he walked in the wrong direction.

It wasn't until he found himself at the gates of a Roman military fortress that he realized

what he had done. All of a sudden he had a soldier yelling at him from the top of the gates. The soldier asked, who are you and what are you doing here?
