Anatole and I met for the first time during the early stages of the war in Afghanistan,

right after 9-11.

And that's a far piece from the Eurasian part, the Ukrainian War, and the Eurasian part, the Ukrainian war on the Eurasian landmass.

He's been traveling in the Middle East, but also in Asia.

And I'm wondering if you picked up any impression of this Ukrainian war from that distance

is it a concern to they consider escalation a threat does anybody even talk about it

to the Chinese have an opinion that has changed

over these two and a half years of stalemated

combat in the Dunbarst?

Well, of course there are huge differences between Asian countries, but I think it's fair to say that with the exception perhaps of the Iranians, nobody actually wants this war to continue, but nobody at present, well, I mean, America

previously made it very clear that it didn't want anyone else to intervene to try to bring about peace.

You know, America snubbed the Indians and the Brazilians pretty savagely when they put forward proposals.

So you know countries are basically waiting to see how things develop, but I mean, I think that if the were a real chance of peace, you would certainly

see countries like India or led by India are really supporting that effort.

I mean it's being suggested that given the effort that Russia has put into trying to woo what's called the Global South.

An initiative, a US-backed initiative from the Global south, say from bricks, led by India or led by South Africa,

would be very difficult actually diplomatically for the Russians to reject.

They would have to respond to that because you know otherwise it would require you know more or less a U-turn in their global policy so that's one possibility. The Chinese are basically wary. I don't think that they

want they didn't want this war and they wouldn't

because I had quite intensive meetings in China.
