And quite apart from the turmoil in Russia, the coalition government led by all of Shultz

published a national security strategy outlining what must be done, what is underway, and the

ambitions for Germany going forward.

We come back to Rye remarks here, and I, one was striking to me because it gets outside

of Europe and the obligations to NATO.

This is again Marie Kross talking about how Japan is now contributing mightily to the

defense of the whole world because of its commitment to a larger budget thinking of China,

an ally of Vladimir Putin.

She Marie Kross also mentions the PRC that is China and the all of Shultz visit before

the turmoil in Russia.

Is that all changing Judy, the relationship with China, and is that going to change again

now that Russia is unstable?

There are a lot of things we don't know about, and it's very easy to speculate or predict,

but that's really not what my task is.

To explain what Japan is doing, it's looking at the defence, revising its whole defence

doctrine in a radical way, and indeed fundamental.

And it's because of China on the one hand.

And on the other hand, I think it gets to something deeper, maybe it's the changing geographical

reach and influence the role of NATO.
