Summary

Motherhood often feels like a season of losing yourself, but what if it’s actually the most profound season of becoming? In this heart-deep conversation, Ginny welcomes back one of the podcast’s most beloved guests, Leah Boden, for her third appearance. Together they explore what Charlotte Mason called the “mind gallery”—the inner storehouse of beauty, story, memory, art, and truth that sustains us through every season of life. Leah shares how the threads of our identity don’t disappear during the exhausting years of raising little ones; they simply lie dormant, waiting for the right time to bloom. Through her own journey—from homeschooling mother to author of living biographies on C.S. Lewis, Charlotte Mason, and Princess Ina—Leah offers a hopeful reminder that the passions you once loved are still there, ready to reemerge as gifts to both you and your children. This episode is a gentle call to build a home rich with sensory experiences, stories, poetry, music, and nature, elements that shape not only a child’s education but their entire inner life. Leah and Ginny discuss how reading biographies breathes humanity into history, how nature observation strengthens a child’s understanding of literature, and how beauty quietly grounds us during seasons of change. They unpack the remarkable story of Princess Aina, showing how courage, displacement, and hope weave together to form a life filled with meaning. Whether you're in the trenches or looking toward the second half of life, this conversation will help you rediscover wonder, reclaim your own mind gallery, and create a feast of learning that nourishes your whole family. I think what you encourage about is mothering so in general you know you're talking about enjoying

motherhood but you also always encourage me to be a little more

0:40.3

hands-on, a little more dialed in to the parts of us that make us feel human, the music and

0:47.1

the art and the reading and the, you know, the conversations and sitting around at night,

0:54.0

telling stories and that type of thing.

0:56.6

And one of the things that you've done that's so incredible is you've homeschooled your kids.

1:01.8

And now sort of near the tail end of this journey, you are joining in on creating the type of living books that Charlotte Mason talked about.

1:28.0

I remember I read, I read three of them. You have one that's out about C.S. Lewis. And you have one that's out about Charlotte Mason and one that just came out about Princess Ina. It's called Brave Princess Ina, the courageous heart of Sarah Forbes Bonetta. And I remember the first time I read, I think I told you this, I read the C.S. Lewis one.

1:43.5

Yes. I read it. You know, I'm taking notes. I was like, this is so interesting. Just the other day, I talked about how he didn't like the typewriter because it made too much noise. I was talking to a current author who's like, I never write anything down on paper. And but when you do, he's like, it's just a different type of writing.

1:46.1

Then we were talking about CS Lewis and I was like, oh, I know these things.

1:46.2

But when I got to the end of it, Leah, that's when I was like, this would be a really good book, I guess, to read with my kids. Like, I liked it so much and I didn't. And I don't ever, you know, all the books that come, if they come from a publisher,

2:02.0

they come with a little sheet about them.

2:04.2

And I never read them because I'm like, why I was going to read the book and ask my own

2:08.2

questions or whatever.

2:09.6

So I didn't at the beginning know that this is like, this is meant to add to your homeschool

library.
