From Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, the sixth game of the 1960 World Series, the New York

Yankees versus the Pittsburgh Pirates brought to you today by General Motors and by the Gillette Safety Razor Company.

It's game number six of the 1960 World Series and this is Jack Quinlan along with Chuck

Thompson back here in Pittsburgh at the home of the Pirates, Forbes Field.

This is where this thrilling show began one week ago today,

and now a week later the Pirates lead the New York Yankees in the series three games to two.

Today the pirates are sending right-hander Bob Friend the mound in an effort to close out the series

and raise the first world championship flag over Forbes Field since

way back in 1925. The Bucks are only one game away from the glory and the gold, although

not necessarily in that order, and they would like to put that money in the bank tonight.

The New York Yankees with their backs to the wall are countering with South Paul Whitey Ford.

It was only this morning that the Yankee boss Casey Stingle finally made his

pitching choice. He wasn't sure whether it would be Bob Turley or Ford. Both had

beaten the Pirates in the series and many observers figured that it would be Ford since Whitey pitched the only shutout of the series. Last Saturday in New York Jackie Stadium, Ford blanked the pirates on only four hits by a score of 10 to nothing

Coasting to an easy Yankee victory. There were others however who figured that

Turley had a better chance of squaring the series for the bombers today.

Ford, they reasoned, is not an effect chance of squaring the series for the bombers today.

Ford, they reason, is not an effective pitcher with only three days rest normally.

Turley, on the other hand, has had five days off.

Turley pitched here last Thursday and defeated friend 16 to 3, but Stingle has decided

to go with Ford the shutout pitcher.

Well, to say the Pirate fans are happy, jubilant, excited, and optimistic is a rather mild way to put it.
